You are here > OUR MAIN - LAW DIGEST INDEX > ABOUT LAWREADER > About Mike McMain

Michael J. McMain has practiced law for 25 years.  Mike has special expertise in all areas of family law, criminal law, bankruptcy, wills and trusts, estates and landlord/tenant.   Mike truly believes his expertise in these areas assist him in making a difference in his client’s lives.

Admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 1981 and the Ohio Bar in 1989 - Mike received his Bachelor’s of Science degree from Northern Kentucky University in 1978; and his law degree from Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1981.  Mike is also licensed to practice in the U. S. District Court of Kentucky and the U. S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit.  Mike is an active member of the Northern Kentucky Bar Association; Kentucky Bar Association; and Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Mike serves on the Children’s Law Center Child Custody Pro Bono Panel and also is a member of the Northern Kentucky Collaborative Law Group, Inc. – this is a group of lawyers who offer, as an alternative, the option for divorce clients to settle cases without court intervention.  In an informal setting, couples are encouraged to take a mature, cooperative, non-combative approach. The couples and their attorneys agree to avoid litigation, thus creating an environment where all involved are committed to reaching an efficient, mutually agreeable settlement... out of the courtroom.

In addition, Mike volunteers his time to the AIM Program (Attendance, Intervention and Mediation) -- a truancy diversion initiative (or Truancy Court) that was implemented on-site in three Boone County Schools during the fall of 2004.  Each participating school selects 8-10 students in the 8-14 age range who are habitual truants or who are in the process of becoming habitual truants. Mr. McMain serves as a "judge" who agrees to meet with the students and families on a weekly basis during the school year to discuss and monitor the problems that impact the truancy behavior. The AIM Program seeks to foster positive attitudes towards school and to increase the participation in school activities by both youth and parents.  On July 14, 2005, the Boone County AIM Program, which includes Mike, received the "Kentucky Child Now Destiny Award".  This award is given each year to recognize individuals and organizations who have made a significant impact on the future of Kentucky's children and youth.
